Mini Piling for Mansfield Town Football Club Stadium Development

Mini Piling for Mansfield Town Football Club Stadium Development

Westbuild Piling recently completed specialist mini piling works at Mansfield Town Football Club as part of a stadium development project in Nottinghamshire.

The works were carried out for Arromax Structures Ltd, a Mansfield-based company that Westbuild had worked with previously.

The project required new piled foundations to support structural steel columns forming part of the stadium development. Because of the known presence of made ground, conventional shallow foundations were unsuitable and piles were required to transfer the new structural loads to competent ground approximately five metres below the surface.

Why Was Piling Required?

Made ground can create significant challenges for new foundations because its composition, depth and load-bearing capacity can vary considerably across a site.

At Mansfield Town Football Club, piling was required specifically because of the known presence of made ground beneath the development area.

The foundation design therefore called for piles capable of transferring the loads from the new structural steel columns through the weaker material and into more competent strata at depth.

Westbuild provides mini piling solutions for commercial, industrial and residential developments where poor ground conditions, made ground or restricted site conditions make conventional foundations unsuitable.

The Mini Piling Solution

Westbuild installed 24no 150mm diameter mini piles, arranged in two separate groups of 12.

The piles were designed to provide foundation support for the new structural steel columns and transfer their loads through the made ground to competent strata at approximately five metres depth.

Small-diameter mini piling can provide an effective foundation solution for developments where localised structural loads need to be supported independently of unsuitable near-surface ground.

For this stadium project, the two pile groups created dedicated support positions for the new steelwork forming part of the development.

Working With the Project Structural Engineer

Westbuild was approached about the project by the structural engineer, Paul Withers of HBPW Ltd, with whom the company has worked on numerous projects over a long period.

Working closely with structural engineers is an important part of specialist piling projects, ensuring that the pile arrangement and installation requirements reflect the structural loads and ground conditions identified for the development.

Westbuild regularly works alongside structural engineers, construction companies and steelwork contractors to deliver specialist piling and foundation solutions across the UK.

Piling Completed in Two Days

The 24 mini piles were installed on 18 and 19 May 2026, allowing this phase of the stadium development to progress quickly.

Following completion, both the client and structural engineer were very pleased with the works carried out by Westbuild and indicated that the company would be contacted regarding the next phase of the project.

Commercial Mini Piling for Development Projects

Mini piling can be used across a wide variety of commercial and specialist developments where ground conditions or structural requirements demand a deeper foundation solution.

Westbuild Piling provides mini piling services for construction companies, developers, structural engineers and specialist contractors throughout the UK.

Applications can include new commercial buildings, structural steelwork, extensions, industrial developments and other projects where loads need to be transferred through poor ground or made ground to stronger bearing strata below.

Westbuild also provides a wider range of piling and foundation services, allowing the foundation solution to be matched to the structural design, site conditions and access requirements.

If your project requires mini piling because of made ground, poor soil conditions or specialist structural loads, contact Westbuild Piling to discuss the requirements.
