Commercial Steel Cased Piling for an Extension in Stallingborough, North East Lincolnshire

Westbuild Piling recently completed the design and construction of piled foundations for a commercial extension at Polynt Composites in Stallingborough, North East Lincolnshire.

Poor ground conditions beneath the proposed extension meant that a specialist piled foundation was required. Westbuild designed and constructed 24no 220mm diameter steel cased piles, with pile lengths extending to up to 14 metres from commencement level.

Why Was Piling Required?

Poor ground conditions can make conventional shallow foundations unsuitable for commercial extensions and other developments.

Where weaker soils extend to significant depth, piling can be used to transfer the loads from the proposed structure through the unsuitable ground and onto more competent bearing strata below.

The Steel Cased Piling Solution

Westbuild designed and constructed 24 steel cased piles, each 220mm in diameter.

Pile lengths extended to up to 14 metres, making this a relatively deep piled foundation solution compared with many of the smaller residential and commercial projects undertaken by the team.

Steel cased piling can provide an effective solution where structural loads need to be transferred through substantial depths of poor or unsuitable ground.

For the Stallingborough extension, the piles provided the foundation support required for the new structure while bypassing the weaker ground closer to the surface.
