Westbuild designed and constructed the complete foundation using 10no 150mm diameter steel cased piles, with an average pile length of approximately six metres, together with around 23 linear metres of reinforced concrete ground beams.
Why Was Piling Required for the Extension?

The Steel Cased Piling Solution
Westbuild installed 10 steel cased piles, each 150mm in diameter, with an average pile length of approximately six metres.

For this residential extension, the piles formed the primary support for the reinforced concrete foundation system above.
Using a piled solution allowed the extension loads to be supported independently of the weaker ground conditions identified beneath the footprint of the new building.
Reinforced Concrete Ground Beams
The pile foundation also incorporated approximately 23 linear metres of reinforced concrete ground beams, measuring 500mm wide by 450mm deep.
RC ground beams span between the piles and transfer the loads from the building into the piled foundation system below.
Combining steel cased piles with reinforced concrete ground beams provided a complete foundation solution specifically designed for the house extension and the conditions encountered on site.
